A healthy lifestyle is a topic that is very close to my heart. My passion grew when I moved abroad and no longer had mommy and daddy preparing my meals day and night. My mom would do the cooking most nights of the week and my dad would sit at the dinner table and give her a rating of the meal on a scale of 1 to 10. (10 being best) Let’s not get into the times where my dad would give her a low rating and my mom telling him exactly what she thought of him. It was always special when my dad cooked. Not because he was better than my mom, but because he did it with love. He would make things that my mom just couldn’t be bothered to do. She is so easy-going when it comes to food. My dad, not so much. And me? Well, let’s just say I take after my dad. I honestly cannot decide who between the two is the better cook. I have learned my traits from both sides and I often seek their advice when it comes to cooking foods I’m not familiar with.
I must say, life without the cookery did take it’s toll on me for quite a while. My morning meals would consist of Whoppers and Big Macs. Of course it didn’t get better at dinner time. I was well on my way to becoming overweight and out of shape. As for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, it goes without saying that keeping fit and eating healthy go hand in hand. With a little extra knowledge and effort, I believe that anyone can make little changes that will improve their diet and everyday lifestyle.
Choosing the right ingredients to eat is the core of healthy eating. Now this does not mean I want you to go all out on organic bullshit. Those who know me know that I don’t believe in the “organic” hype. It helps to know which ingredients are at their peak at any given time, both in terms of flavor and nutrition. Knowing which carbs and fats to stay away from and which ones to trust.
Now let’s just clarify that this is not a diet blog. When it comes down to preparing a healthy dish, balance and moderation are key. It takes more than just putting the right ingredients on the plate. How the food is cooked, seasoned and how the whole menu comes to life is just as important.
I’m not the best, far from it in fact. But I am a learner and I love learning new things in my everyday life. Experimenting with new flavors and creating a new, exciting, and a delicious dish that I can share with my family and friends. After all, a big part of living a good life is the enjoyment of food…
